Some 400 Wacoans gathered Monday morning to march in remembrance of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., the slain civil rights leader who would have been 97 this month.

Members from the Delta Upsilon Zeta chapter of Zeta Phi Beta, followed by representatives of other Divine Nine sororities, led the community in the walk across the Suspension Bridge from Indian Spring Park to the Elm Street Plaza.

Many in the crowd made their way afterward to the Waco Multipurpose Center a few blocks away at Quinn Campus, where they enjoyed a gospel extravaganza and free lunch. The singing and dancing weren’t contained to the stage as the energy pulsed through the room.
