“The easiest thing we have to do is be kind. Serve one another. How great a world would it be? Would we live if we just thought of someone else before we thought of ourselves?”

JIMMY BENNETT

Meet Jimmy Bennett: Jimmy heads the JMB Foundation in his spare time, between being a father and devoted husband and working a full time job. After a perspective shift during his oil field work in far West Texas, Jimmy returned with a new heart to serve people from all backgrounds.

His journey to Waco: Jimmy moved to Waco from Rosebud in 1986, when he transferred as a junior to Midway High School. He has been here ever since.

How he’s making a difference: He organizes nature outings for children and adults, including those with special needs, those who have been bullied or feel suicidal, or first responders who need a break. The weekend trips might include a day on the lake or in a deer blind.

What inspires this work: Jimmy is led by his Christian faith and his commitment to serving people. His calling began with an outing in June 2018 with a young friend of the family who had a terminal illness. She told him afterwards: “This is the best day ever. Can you help me not die?”

How he sees Waco: For Jimmy, Waco is a caring community where people slow down to help each other. From church leaders to local officials, he says, Waco moves as one unit. He said serving people in Waco feels like family helping family.

His hopes for Waco’s future: He hopes to see Waco unite across cultural lines, and for people to serve each other focusing on what unites them, not what divides them.
